2013 goes out with a bang!

Happy New Year! Wow, did 2013 end with an unexpected bang. An anonymous family blessed us with a challenge. That challenge came in the form of a $40,000 matching gift pledge that once matched will provide the funding to purchase and install the second water slide for the tower at The Oasis.

The family's passion for the Oasis is about furthering the resources available to the Better Billings Foundation to provide opportunities where kids and families thrive. They believe that the slide, while an exhilarating ride, really represents an asset to create a continuous funding source to serve more under privileged youth in our community. The additional revenue created by improving the Oasis will allow us to build on programs like Park to Park a summer youth mentoring and reading program that served over 70 under privileged kids last summer. Here is what one of our Park to Park participants had to say. “She (her mentor) makes me feel like a good reader.” It also provided mentoring opportunities for 12 young adults and here’s what one of our mentors had to say about her experience. “I love being able to see the world through their eyes. I hope I can help them see a life with a bright future.”

It also will help us serve more kids with our no fear swim lessons as well as grow and expand on the youth summer safety program called Waves and Wheels where youth are educated in water safety, road safety and brain and spinal cord injury awareness. These programs and more fulfill the Better Billings Foundation’s vision of “linking hope” to our community.

So are we excited about finishing the first phase of The Oasis by purchasing and installing the second slide? Yes. But what is even more exciting is imagining the impact we will have on those we serve through the programs that are funded from an investment in The Oasis.

And we will do it with your help. Please donate to the Second Slide Fund because this is a 2 for 1 deal that’s worth taking the plunge for.
